If you want to take a more structured approach using five categories from the Wheel of Life.
The Wheel of Life is a self-assessment tool often used in coaching and personal development that allows we to visualize the balance (or imbalance) among different areas of their life. You can choose what sections of your life you want to focus on, but for the purposes of this journaling exercise I have selected family, career, spirituality, finances and health.
1. One Day
- Family: What will you do today to foster closeness in your family?
- Career: What one task will you accomplish today to move forward in your career?
- Spirituality: How will you nurture your spirituality today?
- Finances: What financial decision will you make today that can contribute to your long-term financial health?
- Health: What steps will you take for your physical and mental health today?
2. One Week
- Family: What is your family-related goal for this week?
- Career: What career-related tasks will you accomplish by the end of this week?
- Spirituality: How will you integrate spiritual practices into your daily routine this week?
- Finances: What financial planning or adjustments will you complete this week?
- Health: What health goals do you want to achieve by the end of this week?
3. One Month
- Family: How do you want your relationship with your family to improve within a month?
- Career: What are your career objectives for this month?
- Spirituality: What spiritual milestone do you hope to reach this month?
- Finances: What financial goals will you work towards this month?
- Health: What are your health goals for this month?
4. One Quarter
- Family: What are your family-related objectives for this quarter?
- Career: What career achievements do you want to make this quarter?
- Spirituality: What spiritual growth do you aim to achieve this quarter?
- Finances: What financial targets will you aim for this quarter?
- Health: What are your health goals for this quarter?
5. One Year
- Family: What do you want your family life to look like one year from now?
- Career: What are your career goals for the next year?
- Spirituality: How do you want to grow spiritually over the next year?
- Finances: What are your financial goals for the next year?
- Health: What are your health goals for the next year?
6. Five Years
- Family: How do you envision your family life in five years?
- Career: What are your career objectives for the next five years?
- Spirituality: Where do you see yourself on your spiritual journey in five years?
- Finances: What are your financial plans for the next five years?
- Health: What are your health aspirations for the next five years?
7. Ten Years
- Family: How do you imagine your family life in ten years?
- Career: What are your career goals for the next ten years?
- Spirituality: What spiritual milestones do you want to reach in the next ten years?
- Finances: What are your long-term financial goals for the next ten years?
- Health: What are your health objectives for the next ten years?
8. Twenty-Five Years
- Family: What are your aspirations for your family life in 25 years?
- Career: What are your career objectives for the next 25 years?
- Spirituality: Where do you see yourself in your spiritual journey in 25 years?
- Finances: What are your financial plans for the next 25 years?
- Health: What are your health goals for the next 25 years?
Remember, it’s okay if your answers to these prompts change over time.
Goals can shift as your life changes, and it’s beneficial to regularly revisit and revise your goals to ensure they’re still relevant and meaningful to you.
